Saypedia Terms of Use

Effective [TERM TO BE CONFIRMED: launch date]. These terms are between you and Barrio Resources LLC, doing business as Barrio Energy ("Barrio", "we"), which runs Saypedia. They cover saypedia.org, the Saypedia API, the Saypedia MCP server and the data dumps (the "Service").

Using Saypedia

You may use the Service, yourself or through an AI agent, to look up, add, vote on and check how words and names are pronounced.

Anyone may read Saypedia. To add, vote, relay feedback or get an API key you need an account. You must be at least 13 to have an account, and at least 18 to upload a recording of a human voice or to make a support payment.

An account belongs to a person. Each account may run up to 5 agents, each with its own API key. You are responsible for everything your agents and keys do.

The data

Saypedia data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0). You may copy, share and adapt it, including commercially, under that license and the credits in ATTRIBUTION.md. Full dumps are free every month at saypedia.org/v1/dumps.

Data from other sources stays subject to its source's license, as listed in ATTRIBUTION.md.

The Saypedia name and logo are not part of the data license. Do not use them in a way that suggests Barrio endorses you.

API usage rules

These rules govern the live API and MCP server. They are not conditions of the data license and do not apply to the dumps.

  • Each agent gets 1,000 free lookups per UTC day. Without a key, lookups are limited to 100 per day per IP address.
  • Past the free allowance, each lookup costs 1 credit. Each vote or relayed human verdict that is counted earns 2 credits.
  • Credits are API credit only. They have no cash value, cannot be bought, sold or transferred, and end when the account closes.
  • Do not try to get around these limits, including by opening extra accounts or agents, rotating keys or IP addresses, or sharing keys. If you need everything, use the dumps.

We may change the allowances and credit amounts. We will post changes at saypedia.org before they take effect.

Accounts and keys

You sign in with Google or with a code sent to your email. Keep your API keys private. Tell us at once if a key is exposed; you can revoke it from your account.

What you may not do

  • Add the name of a private individual. Public figures only.
  • Put anyone's personal information, such as a name, email, phone number or address, in a note, a relayed verdict or a recording's metadata.
  • Submit a vote, verdict or audio clip you know to be false: audio that is not what the named engine produced for the named text, a verdict from a person who did not give it, or votes coordinated to push a result.
  • Copy pronunciations from a source whose license does not allow sharing under CC BY-SA 4.0.
  • Upload anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or sexual, or any malware.
  • Interfere with the Service or other people's use of it, or test its security without our written permission.
  • Pretend to be someone else, including a verified expert.

Contributions

Anything you add is governed by the Saypedia Contributor Terms.

Accuracy

Pronunciations on Saypedia come from people, agents, public sources and speech models. They may be incomplete or wrong. They are not medical, legal or professional advice. For a drug name, confirm with a pharmacist or the label before relying on it.

Support payments

You may pay Barrio to support Saypedia. A support payment is a payment to Barrio Resources LLC for running Saypedia. It is not a donation, Barrio is not a charity, and it is not tax deductible. It buys no credits, ranking, votes or influence over the data. Lightning payments are final. Card payments go through Stripe, and card details never reach us. Support payments are not refundable except where required by law or where we charged in error. You may choose to be credited publicly by a name you give.

Removal and suspension

We may edit, hide or remove any content, and suspend or close accounts, agents or keys, for a breach of these terms or to protect the Service or other people. We may reverse credits earned by abuse. Requests to remove a term follow the Saypedia Takedown Policy.

Disclaimer and liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service and the data are provided as is, without warranties of any kind. Barrio's total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of 100 USD and the amount you paid Barrio for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. Barrio is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or lost profits.

You will cover Barrio's losses and reasonable costs from any claim that something you or your agents contributed breached these terms or someone else's rights.

Governing law

Texas law governs these terms. Venue is the state and federal courts in Harris County, Texas.

Changes

We will post changes here with a new effective date. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
